How Are You Going to Win?

You already know the classic story of how FedEx won the hearts of its customers. It found a weakness in the normal mail and package delivery systems: they were slow! It created a way to get things to their destinations fast and thereby became a multi-billion dollar business.

By now, the FedEx story is almost a cliché. But as a wise web business person, you are going to take the lesson and do basically the same thing. You're going to find a weakness and turn it into your business's strength. The first step in doing that is to list your competitors' weaknesses.

Your 20 Minute Task

If you used a spreadsheet program, open another tab or start a new spreadsheet. If you used a piece of paper, take out another one. Also, open the spreadsheet you used to record the information about your competitors or take the sheet from the "Competitor Intelligence" file folder.

Look over the weaknesses you noted for the competitors you found. Choose the one you think is the biggest weakness. Write it as the first item on your new list.

Continue looking over the weaknesses, extracting the items in order of their value, and listing them.

When you're done, save the spreadsheet and note its name on the sticky note in your folder or file all your papers in the folder.
