What can't you buy on eBay.com? Well, a few things--human body parts, for example--are off limits. But that leaves practically the whole world otherwise. Some things are in demand and others hardly anyone looks at. What you want to know is, which of all the things for sale on eBay interest you because that will help you find the right market niche.

Print out this page so you have a place to write the topics that interest you. Then visit eBay Pulse which shows what people are searching to buy.

• Look at the top searches. If you see any that grab your attention, write them on your list.
• Next, click on the See more eBay Pulse Categories... link. Look at the list of categories on the left. Which ones make you want to click on them? Jot them on your list.
• Go ahead and click on the categories that interest you and look at the subcategories within them. As you find things you want to click on, write them on your list, too.
• If, as you look at categories and subcategories, you find yourself looking at specific items for sale, write down what they are. Put a star next to them. For example, suppose you find the Real Estate category interesting. Under that category you find "Land." You notice that you feel compelled to look at 40 acre parcels in the Nevada desert and you almost bid on one. That probably means you find raw land particularly interesting so you want to write it down and put a star next to it so you'll remember later.
